The plight of the persecuted church is one that has been too long overlooked but those of the western modern age. There have been martyrs throughout church history and before. A testimony to this is the Fox’s Book of Martyrs, which some of those reading this may have in their library. But did you know that more Christians have died from persecution in the last 100 years than in all church history combined?
Our brothers and sisters are under great distress around the world, they need our prayers, and effort to help them during this time. Not just money, but help; we need to send them encouragement, contact the nations or rulers that can stop the persecution, financially support agencies that help on the ground and in the air, inform those around us about their plight, and stop the persecution in any way we can, using methods that Jesus would approve of.
While broadcasting a regional Voices Of The Martyrs conference live, I was struck by the comment made from a African pastor with over 10 years of persecution experience. He said, “Don’t pray for the persecution to stop, pray that we have strength to endure”. Wow, why would he say that? Because in his experience, the church has increased, and grown stronger during persecution. Another said, “Keep the persecuted and persecutors in your prayer”.
