Online video, just like TV is changing. New legal requirements, changes in the regulations in Europe, Canada and the US is raising the bar on the what is needed to broadcast TV online. At trueGOD Television not only are we responding to these changes, but we have technology in place to provide solutions to Christian TV broadcasters, ministries and churches to meet these new regulations for their Internet broadcasts.
According to the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (USA), signed into law on October 8, 2010, all internet video that were broadcast on television must also be captioned on the web. The deadline for this requirement is still pending as of this post, but it is coming. So for example a church broadcasting their service in a local cable network, would be required to add captions to their videos, of that service if they posted it online on their site. This would affect where they could post, and put them in violation if the original show was broadcast on a network owned by one of the 4 major networks, or a smaller network with at least 50,000 subscribers.
SOLUTION: trueGOD.tv can provide captions in over 60 languages, that can be embed in your site. Members can add captions to videos freely, or captions can be added for a fee to existing videos.
Audio/Text Descriptions:
Also included in this new law is the requirement to provide a text or audio description to all videos that have been broadcast as well. This is needed for the blind and visually impaired population, allowing them to use screen readers or other tools to enjoy video content more fully. Other enhancements to site navigation, buttons, graphics, and will be needed for sites as well.
SOLUTION: trueGOD.tv site translates into 26 languages, using technology that allows us to add text to the elements on our site easily. We will be enhancing our technology for full compliance under the requirements before deadline. Audio Descriptions can be added now to video, and switched on the same way HD or mobile formats can be on trueGOD.tv today.
Transcripts of Video:
Another way blind, deaf and visually impaired populations can more fully enjoy video is with a transcript of the video. We will be adding this feature to trueGOD.tv also.
The new American law, the British Standard, BS 8878 Web accessibility Code of Practice and the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) will be the guidelines we use as we continue to improve trueGOD.tv for our visitors around the world. Implementing these techniques have positive benefits to not just the impaired, but also for translation of the gospel into numerous languages.
Please Pray for us, these steps are important, although technical, for the spread of the gospel using internet video broadcasting. We foresee a decrease in Christian video sites, because many will not be able to comply with regulations like these in the future.
