In George Orwell’s book 1984 (written in 1948), he described a future society in which the “Ministry of Truth” would change history, the meaning of words and introduce the concept of “Doublethink” (the ability to earnestly believe a lie is the truth and forgetting that it was ever different). Well, one of the advantages of being older (over 40) is that you can remember when things were different than they are today.
While doing my occasional research on the trends in online TV technology, in and outside of the Christian arena, I found a christian site that claimed to be “changing the way you view christian television”. The change or “doublethink”, included changing the definition of Christian, but they are not the only ones trying to change what it means to be a Christian. The secularists have devised a way to introduce new age, non-traditional, non-fundamental, individuals (with lots of charisma I might add) and labeling them as Christian leaders while calling the mainstream fundamentalist traditional christian leadership “extremists”. This approach when combined with smooth advertising, appealing to the lust of the eye, flesh and pride of life is a powerful persuader indeed to those not walking in relationship with Christ. Jesus said in the last days that “If it were possible, they would deceive the very elect…”.
Now, back to that Christian TV site…. Featured in their content are many, moral (by today’s standards), feel good TV shows of the past and even some movies that have nothing at all to do with Christ, but are so-called, “family friendly”. I can hear some people complaining now… “So you want to have everyone only watch shows that thump the bible?…”. No, that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is, if you want to drink from the world’s cup, there are a lot of mugs out there. Please don’t take yesteryear’s oldies (music, movies, or tv), and try to sell it to me as Christian. It was not Christian when it was developed, and although it is not as perverse as the normal diet of today’s media, it is not Christian now.
In the “Ministry of the Truth”, they changed history, reduced vocabulary “Newspeak”, and introduced “ThoughtCrime”. If you cannot think or understand the meaning of salvation, eternal judgment, sin, biblical hell or holy, then it makes it a lot harder to communicate not just the terms, but the need of your soul for a Savior.
We are not going to change the meaning of Christian TV at trueGOD.tv. Instead, we are going to take back from the world the things that belong to God. He has created us to be creators. The Great Creator will be glorified by our creations done to His glory, not by slapping some God oil or Jesus label on worldly inspired “strange fire” media and claiming it is now holy. What is “Strange fire, you ask?” [Lev 10:1, Num 3:4, Num 26:61]. It is a profane offering to God; creations of your own inspiration; believing that He will accept them as sufficient. This also includes mixing secular and holy and thinking it will still be holy. Cain tried it, the sons of Arron tried it, the Samaritans tried it and so are many of the leaders in religious media today.
And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves. Ezekiel 44:8
